About Our GIFT Campaign

Bishop John ChapmanAs 21st century Anglicans in the Diocese of Ottawa, we have one foot firmly planted in ancient tradition and the other stepping boldly into God's future.

In 2006, our Synod approved the following mission: to enable people to know Jesus Christ, to live and share the good news, to grow in faith, and to serve God's world. To bring reality to this mission, we must acknowledge the rapid changes in society and the impact on our many ministries.

As parishes in the diocesan household, we embrace the challenge of turning our vision into practical reality - a call to expand our ministries in four key mission areas:

  • Strengthening Congregations
  • Focusing Ministry Outward
  • Educating Leaders
  • Connecting With the Wider Church

Confident that these resources will equip our Church to face the challenges ahead of us, let us take a progressive look towards the future.....

Your money at work

GIFT has enabled students at Buckingham Elementary School to participate in The Daily Bread Program, which is part of The Bishop's Child Poverty Initiative, funded by GIFT. Students in schools in areas of high risk for child poverty are taught about nutrition, including shopping for healthy food choices and preparing nutritious meals. They then enjoy the food they have chosen and prepared. The Bishop's Child Poverty Initiative is aimed at reducing the effects of child poverty in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec.

GIFT has made a difference in Mozambique to improve the lives of 400 AIDS patients, helping them to survive the shock of anti-retroviral (ARV) drugs. Sifa Nuro's husband died of AIDS, and she is a mother to three young boys. She was having difficulty staying on her ARV medication because she didn't have enough food. ARV drugs are so strong that they can be fatal to someone whose body is weakened by hunger. Thanks to GIFT funding, many people like Sifa will receive the food assistance needed to tolerate medication.
